=====! interview !=============================================================

        Session Start: Sat Jun 12 18:11:53 1999

        *** Ex has joined #demojournal

<|ps|> ok, so who are you?

        <Ex> yhm Andrei Proskourine
Graduated to MSc in Computer Science in MEPHI - Moscow

<|ps|> and what do you do on the scene?

<Ex> coder for demo group sense since 1996

<|ps|> who is in sense and what have you done?

<Ex> well... sense seem to be kinda dead (not officially, but we
didn't have any releases since tg98) our members are :
             ex - programmer
             multiplex - programmer
             artman - graphician
             spr0cket - graphician
             silencer - musician
             kodger - 3d graphician
at least they used to be members of sence :)
we had only 2 major releases demos for asm97 and tg98

<|ps|> what place did you get?

<Ex> unluckily asm97 demo bugged badly during show, and we got only
13th place and we got 4th place on tg98

<|ps|> why arent you planning a new demo?

<Ex> we do :) we going to release demo for asm99. its gonna feature
several guest coders, guest designers and guest musicians :)
so if it will be ready in time for asm 99, I hope it will be
             really kool

<|ps|> cool!! :) how is it comming along?

<Ex> well... so far seems like I'm only person already started
             coding :)

        Session Close: Sat Jun 12 18:25:55 1999

        Session Start: Sat Jun 19 19:02:40 1999

        *** Now talking in #demojournal

        *** Ex (~ex@ppdrym.uni-dubna.ru) has joined #demojournal

<|ps|> what do you do on real-life?

<Ex> I am programmer I used to be student in Moscow Enginering and
Physics Institute and graduated 3 months ago

<|ps|> you program on a company?

<Ex> I'm not employed yet, coz looking for better place in game
             company

        <|ps|> ah i see

<Ex> yes. I've been programmer in game company year ago.

<|ps|> so what have you been doing these last 3 months?

<Ex> mostly relaxing, and preparing material for demo that I hope
to be released on asm :)

<|ps|> you ever been to any demoparties?

        <Ex> yes I was to asm97 and asm98 and also tg98
             tg98 was kool :)
I seemed to be only russian organizers ever seen ;D

<|ps|> haha :) what is the best memory you have from those parties?

<Ex> I got free ticket, and was interviewed by bigest norwegian
paper (not scene paper, news paper :) thing I like most on all
of parties is that I can meet ppl, I've been talking to
thousand times! and also taking part in compos is kool

<|ps|> and what was the worst thing?

<Ex> worst... I'm not gonna be original in answer on this question :)
I'm getting pissed off by ppl, who goes to parties only to play
             games, and watch porn
this ppl don't give a fuck to what demoscene is, and if they
vote, it becomes even worse, than if they just sit and play :)

<|ps|> hehehe :) so whats your favorite demo of all times?

<Ex> uhm 2nd reality used to be....
but now I guess it's more like "Core Dump" by strontium 90
             released on ms97

        <|ps|> why?

<Ex> I just like it :) there's not much such thing as design
but it got smooth and fast hicolor engine (one of first ones
I guess) and I like music also so maybe there's nothing special
about each thing in this demo, but it looks stylish when put
             together IMO

<|ps|> what are your favorite musicians, gfx, coders?

<Ex> my favorite musicians are back in old amigascene
My fav is Jester / sanity and Fabian / Desire
I like all those 4 channel tracks :) IMO ppl was much more
talented then ago, when they were limited to only 4 channels
             (not 64 as now) :)
from modern (erm... :) ) musicians I like skaven /
             u_know_from_what_group

<|ps|> why do you think so?

<Ex> I think so... well. I think I can explain
it's same shit with music as with code. do u remember what code
did ppl do long ago on 386? it was state of art code! they
optimized EVERYTHING. but now we got so much processing power,
that nowbody gives fuck to optimizing.... no need to.
             u see what I mean?

<|ps|> what has that got to do with 4 ch? :)

<Ex> and when there were only 4 channels, ppl tried to make nice
melodies, and mix it smart and like that
and now every musical lamer (as I am for example ;) ) can start
IT, and using all that numerous channels and NNA create nice
effects, that don't need him to be professional

<|ps|> so why do you do demos with 32bpp now? why dont you use only
256 colors if you like that so much? :D

        <Ex> well... good question :)

        <|ps|> hehe :)

<Ex> 32 bpp gives MUCH better results, than 8bit modes :)
but I don't say "Hey ppl! use only 4 channels!" no

<|ps|> what are your favorite gfxians and coders?

        <Ex> well.. I like much tmk's drawings

<|ps|> dont we all? :) tmk rules!!!! =)

<Ex> and he's nice guy and coder too btw :)
and I don't think I got any favorite coders, but FC guys, for
             2nd Reality :)

        <|ps|> tmk rules!!!! =) hehe :)
so, what are your plans for teh future now? marry, have kids,
               code games... ?

<Ex> anyway... there's not enough enthusiastic ppl on scene this
days IMO :( oh. yeah. for nearest future - code games
             code MANY games
             code GREAT games :)
and marry, and kids... but later

<|ps|> i though you meant have many kids... :P

        <Ex> in some like 20 yrs :)

        <|ps|> hehe

<Ex> kids is must have, but at right time :)

<|ps|> so are you ready for demojournals top quiz-show contest?

        <Ex> errm... what contest?

<|ps|> 1. whats the capital of madagascar?
time is ticking.. you have to answer fast..

        <Ex> erm

        <|ps|> WRONG!!!!
               2. how many lakes are there in russia?

        <Ex> uhm

        <|ps|> WRONG!!!!

<Ex> lot of em :) 10234 come here and check :)

<|ps|> 3. whats your favorite color?

        <Ex> dark green :)

<|ps|> 4. how many moons does jupiter have?

        <Ex> 9

<|ps|> 5. when did the first world war started?

        <Ex> 22 june 1941 oops not 1912 I guess :)

<|ps|> what happened on 22 june 1941 btw?

        <Ex> yeah u know ;) 2nd WW

        <|ps|> i knew that! :D

        <Ex> ;)

<|ps|> so tell us some more about your homecountry.

<Ex> well nature is beautifull here, but stupid government makes it
             impossible to live in :)

        <|ps|> why?

<Ex> coz everybody, who gets to top, starts to steal stuff :)
and higher he sits, more he steals :)

        <|ps|> i see

<Ex> also... can't remember our government to make something smart :)
so... only good thing in here, is that we have cds full of
warez and gamez for 2$ each :)
and also copyrights mean nearly nothing here :)

<|ps|> well.. im out of questions now! :) do you have an homepage
               and email?

        <Ex> no and yes :)
never been interested in making homepage (and surfing www too
btw ;) - it's just waste of bandwidth) ;D and my email for
everyone who wants to contact me is ex@chat.ru

<|ps|> do you have coca-cola in russia?

<Ex> sure we have:) we got everything european countries have :)

<|ps|> doesnt it taste bad lately? they have been removed from stock
               in all countries
               the ones in plastic bottles

<Ex> and bears don't walk along the streets, as some ppl do think ;D

        <|ps|> they dont?

<Ex> yeah. I heard 'bout it
but when it's hot outside, I prefer juices :D so I didn't drink
coke for some like month :)

<|ps|> do you have the pepsi challenge in russia?

<Ex> pepsi challenge... lemme think.. can't remember any :)
but we got lot of other challenges :)

        <|ps|> NO PEPSI CHALLENGE??!?!?!?!?!?!?!

        <Ex> uhm. no

<|ps|> i understand why russia is such a bad place to live in now! :P

<Ex> but we did there was one
u was supposed to get several lids, with pair pictures and shit
like that :) is that what u mean? :)
or that was coke... was like 1.5 yrs ago :)
             can't remember exactly right now

<|ps|> no thats not what i mean :) hehe

<Ex> anyway.. pepsi is not as popular as coke here.
90% of ppl prefer coke :)

<|ps|> thats the point of the pepsi challenge
everywhere in the world is like that so pepsi made up this
challenge they give you 2 glasses with coke and pepsi and you

=====! demo !==================================================================

        Shadology...

Well, long waited demonstration is Shad2, finally released,
but... So, what you really need to run it correctly? We
tryed it on NNS/Exceed's machine, his was the most
unpowerfull nearby. ;) So it *WORKS* with 64mb too, but you
will not hear the mp3-s. You *MUST* unrar it with WINRAR2.X
becouse the long file names, don't forget that! And finally
NOTHING other resident programs! (No DOS task,
WinCommander, etc!) Use "Run..." in your Win9x. So, now
about some words about the hopefully working demo. :) You
can choice software or hardware D3D, well some textures
were left out in when i started the HW version, maybe the
4mb limit on my Virge GX isn't enought. The 3d engine is in
both fast on my machine (celeron 300A, not "trained" ;)),
        and NNS's 233MMX (on 266 ;)) gave us a averange speed and
results. 2 interresting things about their sounds:

1 - Rumors saiz that Guille throwed out Traven's tracks!
Shame on! This metallic crap is much much shittyer, and not
        "scener made". Justice for Traven! If Shad3 ever, O N L Y
        with his tracks!

        2 - A technically thing: They digitalized it in 32 bit, (
good.) and they "speeded up" -> the mp3 isn't so big in
size, -> played back "slow" and the result: stunning
quality in acceptable size! Nice "trick" Cocoon/Syndrome!

Back to demo: The textures are still the best point of the
demo, really good work of Nytrik, Tenshu + others... (sorry
forgot the names...) The objects are still "low face" and
nothing much morphing, moving, LIVING on the scene, that's
why i still think that why Shadz aren't a big hit. 90% in
the scenes are just one camera moving from point A to B, i
think this is boring nowadays. A bit more phisikal
modelling, "living" moving biches, vamps, monsters next
time please. ;) The traveling inside the monster starting
from his mounth was the most "unliked" part by me, but the
feeling is still horroristik, especially the pictures by
Nytrik rule. I think he has watched John Carpenter's
Vampires. =) So what can i say more? I think we expected
more, but in this weak year (nothing decent yet.) it is a
top production. The 1. had much better feeling, now we know
how important Traven's tunes was in the past. And there
were 4 parts, included a really dope "Alien" like part, in
        2. only 2, but some parts in 2 are really ugly like the
monster, or metaball part. I still can't say what i feel:
50% i'm happy with it, 50% not, but this doesn't mean it is
bad! Not many groups can do things like Shad. Thanks
        Cocoon/Syndrome!

Lee Dooper - da Shad starting expert. ;)

(Btw. I have still problem with 1, becouse in DOS the
syncronizing is bad, in Windows i must use IWSBOS, becouse
if i want to use the GUS settings it crashes after the
first part, or starts without sounds! We got this same
"syncro" problem with Riprap, but that works fine in Win9x
here. So people Midas suxx, or the coders who can't use it
right. ;) Btw2. the Indoor 0.x series are bad on my GUS Pnp
too, i must use Gravis Software mix when i want hear that
what the musician really composed for us, becouse the
Interwave mode makes interresting sound. The older Replay
demos (Jinsung) are working correctly, but with Roger
Superstar i had the same problem. So dear coders follow
this things with attencion, it isn't really funny to trick
out the bugs with Win or DOS, "real" GUS, Software GUS or
IWSBOS... If anyone have some ideas about this problems he
should write an article about this for Fleur4. =) (Free
        Advert! Free Advert!))

Runko by Tpolm - Second at Remedy '99

Hehhehh, they are back with an another cute, funny, dummy, stupido
etc. - so TYPICAL Tpolm styled intro. If you like that don't miss.
Cartoon style, stupid texts, idiotic animals but all cuuuuuuuuuuuute.
:) Spacebase MIR-C, is starring too, in this little "movie". And at
the end we can see a falling superstar. :) Remembers me to Monthy

        1999

Mystical has released some mp3's he made for some computer game.
I did get this one to check it's style and it's exactly what I've
expected - a happy playful piece of music, something like Skaven's
"Catch that Goblin". Sound's very clean and there is a lot of
variation in the song, but you can hear that it's only music for
a computer game. So if you want, get it or check the other mp3's
that are on his homepage, but don't be afraid that you will miss
Mystical's best song if you don't get this one.
                                                                       tryhuk

NAIDorabilia - The North American International Demoparty CD-ROM
Compendium

I would like to proudly announce that my NAID CD-ROM project is
complete. It is officially titled "NAIDorabilia". With the help of many
people over a six-month period, I have collected the following material
for the CD:

     ALL the '96 compo entries
95% of the '95 compo entries (missing a few gfx, 3 songs, and 1
intro)
1.5 hours of audio footage from '96
1.5 hours of video footage from '95 and '96
     400+ photos from '95 and '96
invtros, reports, results, and related text files
     bonus North American demoscene memorabilia
tons of hidden files and other surprises

The price of the CD, including shipping and handling, is:

     $12.00 (US and Canada)
     $13.00 (international)

Both prices are in US funds.

This is a very limited production. As of 6/18/99 only 74 CDs remain. To
reserve your copy, fill out the order form at
