1. w h a t ' s n e w i n t h e g r o u p

A lot of things have happened and changed along the 7 months which have
passed since our last production. Our WHQ's SysOp left due to heavy
inactivity around May and recently, the other 2 members also left! :-(
Cool Man (code) left due to several internal/external conflicts and
DJ Mind (music) followed his steps, leaving just me (Brain Power [code])
  in the group.

After all this, a new member has entered: Data Disrupter (graphician), left
Evasive Krew to join Darkness Unknown Force in June. He has drawn the
graphics and the font for this production, and helped with the design, of
course. So we are still a group!

PLUS, we have another member! just a 2 weeks before the release, Noise
Bleeder joined as a musician. He composed and revised most of the music in
this intro and will compose other tunes as the group proceeds.

(Please read !README.1ST if you don't know how to start the intro)

This production was first started sometime in June, we can't quite remember.
We started doing huge plans (as always...) to finally decide to just stick
to a little intro with some cool graphics!

We spent about 2.5 months writing & designing the production. We are still
a bit inexperienced in coding graphical demos, and the music and synchro
took us a lot more time than we expected.
It's our first "real" production, so it's OK to expect a few (?) mistakes
here and there, isn't it? :]

The synchronizing sucks real bad when you run the demo on a 486 SX/33Mhz
with Sound Blaster for the sound. Sound Blasters are not suitable for demos,
since they eat up a lot of processor power to mix the music. Running the demo
with a GUS should be no problem, though.

The demo was tested on a Pentium 66Mhz and on a 486 SX/33 Mhz. On the former,
the synchro was OK, but on the latter, some seconds were delayed due to the
low processing power. We don't think it'll look very good on a 386 DX.

The GUS player is Edward Schlunder's Bells, Whistles and Sound Boards (BWSB).
It's a very powerful module playing library which we used because Brain Power
didn't finish his GUS player on time.

PROGRAMS USED TO CREATE THE INTRO:
Turbo Pascal 7.0 - code and Opium sound-system
Opium Player - our very own sound-system, coded by Brain Power
     BWSB - GUS player
     ScreamTracker 3.21 - music
     NeoPaint 3.2 - pixellised graphics
     TheDraw - all ANSIs
     MS Edit 7.0 - this doc's editor

See? It's so simple to create your own productions without having to
use powerful software! You only need will and creativity to do them...
   and A LOT of patience.

   Realm of Darkness BBS
   [+ 351 - 1 - 9575245]

ROD BBS was born out of the demoscene's fascination in September 1994, and
was firstly called Enigma BBS. Since it started, it was basically dedicated
to coding. Later on, already named Realm of Darkness and along with the
explosion of the CD-ROM drives and Internet connection, it soon became one
of the best demoscene-oriented BBSs in Portugal.
But the project didn't stop here - in the first day of the present year
(1996), this BBS started what is today the largest fully scene-dedicated
   echomail network.

ROD BBS started growing and today has 5 Gigabytes of files on-line, which
cover a vast range of the demoscene, such as demos, music, coding and
graphics, and became a supporting site of important world-wide & Portuguese
scene events, such as the DemOS project, the SWAGs & the Virtual Music
Contest, the first ever Portuguese scene-oriented music compo. Plus the
Infinity magazine, which is now on its second issue of quality articles,
mainly written by Portuguese scene notables. It covers a wide range of
electronic journalism - there is not only scene-dedicated stuff (coding,
tutorials, music, etc), but also many poems, reflections, opinions and
critics, which make for an overall mix of interesting articles to read!

(The infinity diskmags are available for download at:
     ftp.cdrom.com/pub/demos/mags/1996/infy1.zip and infy2.zip)

If we are to talk about the Realm of Darkness BBS, we must also notice the
Infinity Network, the biggest project ever made on the Portuguese scene.
Its main goal is to gather the most Portuguese demosceners, as well as
   promoting contests, meetings and parties.

Among all the events already organised by Infinity, two important ones must
be talked about: The Virtual Music Contest 96, which was the first tracked
music contest held in Portuguese territory), and the Infinity Diskmag, which
is now the first Portuguese disk magazine.

The latest step in the Infinity Network is the opening of its international
division - Infinity International - which aims to be the meeting point of
many scene lovers throughout the whole world.

8. D U F i s n o t a w a r e z g r o u p !

The IRC channel #duf, which we could have considered as our own one, is
normally used by another group. A warez (piracy and such) group called
   Deadly Underground Force (also DUF).

We would like to point out that we are *NOT* a warez/piracy group!

Our true name is Darkness Unknown Force and we are a demo group. We are
actually older than Deadly Underground Force.

Do not enter #duf to talk with or about us! Use some other one or notify
   us first. Thank you.

X. b y e d u d e s !

Well, I guess this is really it... the long-awaited goodbye!
We are going to be away for some months, so you may have to wait a lot
until we complete our next production. In fact, even we don't know what it
will be like... perhaps a demo!

See you in our next production!

The Darkness Unknown Force is logging off...
