This is a small utility I wrote that I thought I would share with you all.
The purpose of this program is to determine the performance of your video
card. When you run the program, your screen turns black for a few seconds.
During this time, VIDTIMER writes and reads data to and from video memory,
timing the results. The timing results appear on the screen afterwards.

I wrote this program since none of the existing video card test-utilities
seemed to clock what is important to me: Raw DOS Transfers. Included in the
file DSP6430.TXT are the results from my own video card, a Chips &
Technologies DSP6430 VLB card. In the file VIDCARDS.TXT you can find the
timing results from several other video cards. These timings come from the
people who have sent me the results from their video card. I would be happy
if you would send me the results from YOUR card. You can do this in the
following way:

Pipe the timing results to a file:

VIDSPEED > MYCARD.TXT

Edit the text file and insert the following important machine
specifications:

- CPU Clock Rate and Brand/Model
- Video Card Brand/Model (Chipset)
- Video RAM Type on the Card
- Bus Type and Version

Example:

"INTEL 80486 DX/2 processor running at 66 Mhz
VESA Local Bus TSENG ET4000/w32p with 1 MB DRAM installed"

Print out the file and send it to the following address:

Or, send the file to me via e-mail:

Thank you very much. I hope you enjoy this small utility.
