  Discography and release notes

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hypnosis
group affiliation: independent
released on: March 25, 1993
4 channels / 3:48 length
Notes:
First mod that I attempted; used Modedit 3.01 with the piano roll
interface. Simple tune that lacked effects but had a nice sound to it
nonetheless. I began to develop my own style after listening to many other
mods & incorporated some original melodies beginning with this tune...

------------------------------------------------------------------------

VorteX
group affiliation: independent
released on: June 5, 1993
4 channels / 2:18 length
Notes:
This song is significant to me since it was the first which contained
original samples that I took myself. In this case, from the Enigma MCMXC
a.d. album.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tranquility
group affiliation: [LOGIC]
released on: July 5, 1993
4 channels / 3:41 length
Notes:
After only having a Soundblaster card for my first two releases, I
finally had the benefit of hearing the music in stereo with a Soundblaster
Pro card. I also began to use more effects such as portamentos and
the layout of my songs started to become a bit more complex after this one..

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Eclipse
group affiliation: [LOGIC]
released on: July 17, 1993
4 channels / 3:04 length
Notes:
This is one of my favorite tunes to go back and listen to. It contained
the first vocal samples that I've tinkered with. People also started to
realize what a huge Enigma fan I was and still am.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Edge of Darkness
group affiliation: [LOGiC]
released on: August 10, 1993
4 channels / 4:05 length
Notes:
A definate success here, at least to me personally. This one was put
together after taking samples from an old haunted house tape lying around,
the type you can find at Walgreen's at around Halloween time. I still think
it has a great theme and is generally fun to listen to.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Omni
group affiliation: [CMA]
released on: September 15, 1993
4 channels / 3:35 length
Notes:
More originally sampled instruments here.. In this case from P.M. Dawn's
"Paper Doll" single. The intro is very much like the actual P.M. Dawn song,
yet it takes a completely different turn immediately afterwards. It includes
some of my best percussion layouts to this point also...

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nostalgia 2
group affiliation: independent
released on: September 25, 1993
4 channels / 4:13 length
Notes:
After listening to Youthenasia's release of "Nostalgia" I thought it was
a marvelous tune that lacked something minor. I reworked the song a bit and
added some personal flares to it. The final product came out quite well in
my opinion and this is still my favorite mod to listen to.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Inferno
group affiliation: [ACID]
released on: November 5, 1993
4 channels / 4:03 length
Notes:
Thunderstorm, wind, lightning, and churchbell samples make up this module..
Great overall effects in my opinion, although I think it could have used more
melodical development.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Surreal
group affiliation: [ACID]
released on: November 28, 1993
4 channels / 3:31 length
Notes:
Very smooth intro with synth's sampled from Ray Lynch, the rest of the song
had parts which I would gladly rewrite if I had the time and patience to do
so. As far as mods are concerned however, I'm the type to not have multiple
"versions" of songs floating around. The note cuts were also a problem with
this release [see Centrifuge notes below]

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Centrifuge
group affiliation: [ACID]
released on: December 26, 1993
4 channels / 3:27 length
Notes:
Sounds decent if you have the right player.. with Scream Tracker and a few
others however the NOTE CUT effects come out completely wrong, and there are
huge gaps of silence which are completely unintentional. I stopped using
note cuts from this point and went with volume slides for this reason. I also
used lesser quality samples in this song to try to bring the size of it down
for ACID. I didn't stay with them for very long for that and various other
reasons.. an ANSI group really isn't the place for a musician.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Disillusion
group affiliation: independent
released on: January 15, 1994
4 channels / 5:42 length
Notes:
This song has its charm, and for the most part turned out well in my
opinion. I continued to experiment with new sounds and techniques.
I took a break after this one from writing at least monthly and thought
about ways to incorporate Enigma's brand new "CROSS of Changes" album into
my music [see Affinity below].

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Affinity
group affiliation: [GOTHIC]
released on: March 13, 1994
4 channels / 5:01 length
Notes:
I thought I'd kick off my second year of composing on the pc with something
special. Although Affinity would be more accurately classified as background
music, it still has vocal effects and characteristics which are put together
in a unique way. One archaic feature of Modedit was that it did not support
EMS/XMS memory at all, so the entire song was done within the 640k dos limit.
I still look back on this one and say "wait a second...
this is a MOD??!" ... :)

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Demonic Sensation
group affiliation: independent
released on: May 29, 1994
4 channels / 4:19 length
Notes:
This was a HUGE success.. I received lots of feedback about Demonic
Sensation. Everything seemed to fit together perfectly: the DOOM effects,
rhythm, melody, etc.. a sequel to this is in the works, although I'm
tempted to base the new song around QUAKE when it is released.
[DOOM & QUAKE (c)id software]

------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Edge of Darkness 2: Point of Return
group affiliation: independent
released on June 28, 1994
4 channels / 4:29 length
Notes:
This is the sequel to the August '93 hit which I felt was worth
continuing. It starts with a slow, expressive intro and later builds up
into an atmosphere similiar to the first song. Finally, it comes to a
climax and ends nicely. The introductory chords are a bit too low for the
samples used and they come out rigid & flat with certain players, but
overall it didn't affect the song too much. Hopefully..

------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Forthcoming
group affiliation: independent
released on: September 25, 1994
4 channels / 5:10 length
Notes:
The first song I've done which is primarily a piano tune. It's a bit
rough around the edges since I haven't had any formal piano lessons before,
but it still worked out for the most part. The rhythm and "bng" effects
were sampled from the Jam & Spoon remix of Enigma's "Carly's Song."

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nightvibe
group affiliation: independent
released on: November 24, 1994
4 channels / 4:31 length
Notes:
This mod is probably my favorite to listen to besides Notalgia 2, because
of the driving percussion line and the fact that its creation was relatively
seamless. I also decided to use the overkilled "indian synth" sample one last
time in this one....

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mysitque / Part One
group affiliation: independent
released on: March 5, 1995
10 channels / 3:37 length
Notes:
Mystique was originally going to be another 4 channel mod, but the nature
of the song and all of the lines I had in mind made that impossible and I
finally made the switch to the S3M format. Well before this song I've been
familiar with Scream Tracker, but never wanted to fully indulge in it since
it used the Tracker interface as opposed to the much easier, straightforward
and MIDI-like piano roll. Although this song turned out to be a success for
me, I still struggle with the clumsy Tracker piano/keyboard that someone
invented a long time ago; in other words I'm still trying to get completely
used to it... The basics are there, but some of my techniques aren't as easy
to put into music as they were with Modedit 3.01.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mystique Part Two
group affiliation: independent
released on: June 1, 1995
12 channels / 7:26 length
Notes:
Some time after deciding to start doing S3M's, I decided to make my first
three releases a trilogy. This tune is the longest I've done, coming up to
almost 8 minutes, and it has three distinct parts to it. Looking back on it,
there are some spots that could have used a melody but my original idea of
leaving that out in favor of a constant background music "mood." It doesn't
sound like the first Mystique directly but carries the same theme.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Transambience
group affiliation: [MAD]
released on July 3, 1995
14 channels / 4:41 length
Notes:
From the start, Transambience is the most techno-sounding song that I've
done to date, with a completely new type of [quarter note] rhythm I haven't
used before. The brass melodies make the song come together well. There's
also a mistake in the copy that's in circulation: the release date should
be 07/03/95 not 06/03/95 ..

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mystique Part Three
group affiliation: independent
released on September 30, 1995
14 channels / 6:18 length
Notes:
An enormous release for me.... not just in terms of size [coming close to
700k] but in terms of effort and outcome. The distortion effects I used this
time around are from Front 242's "Off" album. This song is different from
the rest, since it doesn't ever take off with a dance rhythm and isn't
tremendously fast.. Instead I've blended many instruments together and
focused more on the overall expression of the song as a whole.
